Happy New Year
Hi everyone and welcome to the 2007 edition of Clare's Excellent Adventures! I hope you are all well and celebrated in style... any new years resolutions you want to share?
I had a lovely New Years visiting Muskoka with Sharon, Allison and Natalie. We had planned to go skiing but unfortunately heavy rain on New Years even coupled with some more general global warming meant that didn't quite happen - we did have a great time exploring the countryside though, which given my tendancy towards unco-ness was probably a safer bet!
We drove up on New Years eve with only a brief stop for Sharon to receive a speeding ticket (tut-tut) and arrived about lunch time. We visited the town of Haliburton for some lunch and to look at one of the many lakes in the region before cheaking into our lodge for the night. The place we stayed at was gorgeous - very rustic, massive beds, balconies, lake-views and don't even get me started on the food! We took a stroll down one of the snowy paths by the lodge and retired for some dinner, drinks and silly game playing. Highlight of the night - learning that there is a word for what I do at work everyday: 'BOONDOGGLE' - the art of looking busy while having nothing to do (thank god for balderdash enhancing my education!).
After toasting new years and having a bit of a review of the year gone by we retired for the night. We got up on New Years day to eat yet more delicious food and to find that rain had washed away all our snow - this required a quick change of plans from skiing to exploring some of the parklands and waterways around the area. We visited whitewater park and saw a historical log chute and just basically checked out the sights. It is a lovely, scenic area and I can imagine that in fall particularly it would be gorgeous with all the bright leaves etc.
We visited Canada's best country store after that for a little picnic lunch and headed back towards Toronto in time for an early night and getting back to work today.
Check out the view from our balcony (before the snow melted)
I have always been fond of weapons in one's living room:

More pics to come!
